REAL STEEL BACKGROUND
The Sig Sauer P226 is a world reknowned pistol known for Sig's exceptional reliability and excellent performance. It is the official sidearm of the US Navy SEALs and is favoured by many law enforcement agencies, special forces and military operators around the world, including the Canadian Navy. The early model was produced in 1983 and it was first available in 9mm but is now available in .40 S&W and .357 SIG calibers for better stopping power required by law enforcement agencies. This double action pistol is one of the most reliable and accurate pistols currently in use, it's practical design and great ergonomics make it an ideal duty pistol for business.

Real Steel Sig Sauer P226 .40 S&W

The P226 competed against the Beretta M9 to be the official sidearm of the US Army. Both the P226 and M9 performed very well in all the rigurous tests of the US Army, both beating pistols offered by Heckler & Koch, Colt, Ruger and Glock. Although the P226 was cheaper in cost than the M9, the M9 was eventually adopted by the US Army due to cheaper accessories cost. Having fired this pistol at the range, I can truly understand why the US Navy Seals prefer it. The P226 is a pistol designed for business. The accuracy, reliability and practicality of this pistol is evident with every shot and the trigger pull is exactly how you would want it.

FIRST IMPRESSION
When I first saw the Tokyo Marui Sig Sauer P226 on display at the shops, my first impression was that it looks very realistic. I own the real steel Sig Sauer P226 and I must say that the dimensions and asthetics of the TM Sig P226 are very authentic, even the trademarks are top notch and looked almost completely identical to the real thing. As an airsoft player and collector, I am very picky about having accurate markings. I mean who wants an M16 that has "Manufactured on Greedy Island" stamped on the side? (G&G GR16 cough cough...) So needless to say, I was very happy to see some accurate markings on this pistol. However, if you look on the other side, it clearly has "Tokyo Marui Co. Made In Japan" stamped on the frame just above the rail.

APPEARANCE & ASTEHTICS
The TM P226 is finished in a nice matte black coating which gives it a nice metallic, non-reflective look, just like the real one. However, the slide on the real Sig Sauer P226 is stainless steel and features a Nitron finish. This Nitron finish protects the slide from corrosion, rust and makes it more resistant to scratches. The Nitron finish gives the slide a greyish color which is evidently different from the color of the frame which does not have the Nitron coating. I am almost certain there will be after market manufacturers producing metal slides for this pistol. This gun really needs a metal slide to do it justice.

Right out of the box I noticed the gun had pretty good weight for an ABS non heavy-weight gas blow back pistol. Most of the weight is in the magazine which weighs 300g, almost half the weight of the gun. The front section is relatively light which makes this pistol very easy to manuever and aim. With a double stack configuration, the TM P226 is able to hold 25 rounds or one extra if you put one in the chamber.

The grip has P226 marked on one side and Sig Sauer on the other, just like the real one. I found the grips to be rather disappointing, the checkering wasn't very well done and the feel is rather "plasticky". I think they should have given it a light rubberery coating on it like on the TM Tactical Masters. Metal parts on the TM P226 include the spring guide rod, trigger, front & rear sight, mag release, decocking lever, disassembly switch, slide catch and hammer. These are the standard components that should be metal on an airsoft pistol. The railed frame allows for many different kinds of tactical lights and laser sights to be mounted on this pistol. Most people will use an Insight Technology M3 or Surefire X200 tactical light which works very well this gun.

FUNCTIONALITY

The TM P226 functions very smoothly and even has a working decocking lever. Disassembly works exactly like the real steel. To disassemble the pistol, simply pull the slide back and lock it back with the slide catch, turn the disassembly switch, then release the slide catch and you can slide off the enter upper section. Due to the light weight slide, cycles are very smooth and crisp, especially in the hot Hong Kong summer weather.

The magazine release works flawlessly and it should be almost impossible to accidentally drop your magazine due to the position of the button. The magazine itself is a two piece design with the connection point moved up significantly. This should help reduce the chance of gas leaking from bottom of magazine. A problem with some of the TM M9's was that the the connection point of the magazine is right at the mag base, so if you accidentally dropped your magazine on a hard surface like concrete too many times, the magazine will start to leak gas from the bottom. So it is nice to know that TM is improving from small glitches from their earlier gas blow back models.

PERFORMANCE
Due to the light weight slide and TM's new gas blow back system, this gun cycles very smoothly and the blow back action is crisp. The hop-up unit helps alot with rance and accuracy but you must disassemble the pistol in order to adjust it. A bit annoying but nothing too cuss about. Headshots at 8 meters distance is dead easy to get after properly calibrating the hop-up unit. With distances greater than 8 meters, you start to notice a bit of "floating" and the bb seems to be more affected by wind. So really, it depends on how good of a shot u are when engagement ranges exceed 8 meters.

CONCLUSION
The Tokyo Marui Sig P226 is certainly a welcome new release from Tokyo Marui. This pistol will certainly make all the Sig P226 lovers out there very happy. Its a great choice for anyone looking for a well performing, affordable and reliable gas blow back to use on the field. You really get the "bang for your buck" and with its great looks and and reliable design, you won't hesitate to actually put it to use. This is actually something that most people overlook. Not many people will take their Western Arms pistols on the field because they are rather expensive and they are built with higher quality which makes them better for collection. I take very good care of my WA's and I would rather not have it in my holster and get it all scratched up from crawling around. Nor do I really want to worry about damaging my WA during skirmishing, if i have to worry about that I would probably get killed fairly frequently.

The TM P226 recieves an overall score of 8.5 points. This pistol has been a blast to play with and I'm very happy that it turned out so well. Performance, functionality and asthetics are all part of the package and compareable to the TM M9 and Desert Eagle. I am sure this pistol will be big hit especially with all the airsoft players who have been waiting for a decent Sig Sauer P226 airsoft pistol that not only looks good but also performs reliably. A plethora of companies are already in the works on aftermarket parts for the TM P226, including metal slides and frames, threaded outer barrels aswell as performance upgrades for the TM P226 so there will be a great potential for modifications to this gun. No doubt, this pistol is the best airsoft Sig P226 gas blow back you can buy at the moment, and with its affordable price tag, and great looks, you really can't go wrong with the TM Sig P226.
