New
Tokyo Marui Type 89 5.56mm Electric Rifle
Tokyo
Marui showed off a prototype of their newest AEG at the annual
Japan Hobbyshow, the Type 89 5.56mm rifle used by the Japanese Ground
Self Defence Force (J.G.S.D.F.). The new TM Type 89 features Marui's
newly designed Version 8 mechbox and is capabale of 3 shot burst firing.
Weighing in at 3.7kg, this is quite a hefty rifle out of the box.
From looking at the pictures, I believe the reciever may infact be
made of metal, if it is than that is great news and it is about time
that TM started offering guns with metal recievers as a standard accessory.
Like any TM gun, expect a ton of manufaturers to produce aftermarket
parts and accessories for it.

Tokyo Marui Type 89 Specification Sheet
The
real steel Type 89 rifle was originally developed by HOWA Machinery
Co., Japan, for the National Defence Forces of Japan. The Type 89
rifle is a select-fire, gas-operated, rotating bolt firearm. The
gas action and bolt group is somewhat similar to USA-designed AR-18
rifle, previously manufactured by HOWA under license from Armalite
Co. (USA). The Type 89 rifle features a receiver made from stamped
steel, polymer furniture and flip-up aperture rear sights. It also
has lightweight folding bipod similar to the H&K G3 SG-1 rifle.
